Welcome to my portfolio, weary traveler!
My name is Gideon Moes, creator of Night Spasm and freelance composer. I'm pursuing Project Management and Administrative Management bachelor degrees at Central Washington University. I write, compose, and handle documentation for video game projects, including my own ongoing game called "Night Spasm", available for free on Steam, released May 15th, 2020. My hobbies include camping, karate, video editing, board game design, pixel art, sketching, wood working, and novel writing.
Music Background & Samples:
As an avid lover of video games, film, and music, I've composed over 500 original songs and remixes in my spare time. Since then, I've worked with a few small indie developers in creating a soundtrack for their projects, including fan games and game jams. I'm also composing a soundtrack for my own game, Night Spasm, occasionally releasing singles on Soundcloud as well.
To me, music is the modern magic of our time: audible experiences capable of telling stories or allowing one to imagine their own stories. From emotional songs accompanying a character's heroic sacrifice to atmospheric music one might stop and listen to, contexts and characters are only as strong as their melodies. With so many styles in the world, there's a song for everyone, and through my work, I seek to change people's lives the same way mine was changed through music. The sky's the limit!

Below are some songs I've made in the past and their descriptions:
Area Themes:
From cinematic scores to hub world music, area music brings environments to life.
A lively JRPG village theme, introducing the player into the world ahead.
Background music for coastal town, the town's sea glimmering in the moonlight.
An instrumental hymn singing tribute to a fallen town ravaged by war.
A Latin shop theme for a humble local weaponsmith.
A cinematic song accompanying the player's journey through a hollow, lonely forest.
Battle Themes:
Whether the player is up against a low-level monster or the evilest video game villain of all time, making battle themes for characters is my specialty, particularly in the heavy metal and jazz fusion genres.
A tragic fight where the main character must face off against his childhood friend. Features the best friend's leitmotif and the game's main battle theme.
A jazzy battle theme inspired by the Persona and Xenoblade Chronicles series.
A mysterious battle theme that replaces the main battle theme if the player is about to begin a villain playthrough.
A final boss theme for a fight against a loyal king, courageously facing you in his own throne room.
A theme for a secret boss fight against a friend and a villain teaming up for a greater cause. Features the villain's character and boss themes, musical references to areas throughout the game, and the melody of the friend's love interest.
A secret boss fight theme for an insane mage imprisoned for telling the harsh truth. Composed in collaboration with an old online friend of mine.
Character Themes:
The foundation of all iconic characters is an iconic character theme. Even when you know nothing else about a character, a good character theme tells the listener everything about them.
A humorous introduction theme for a candle-headed radio show host here to pay an unexpected visit.
The regal theme of a mysterious spider mistress capable of tampering your very mind.
A fun and hearty tune for a group of mischievous pirates ready to take on the world with you... and take over the town...
A cute melody for a sweet photographer ready to take your picture. Made entirely with the Earthbound SoundFont.
A curious waltz for a merchant willing to trade some concerning items with you.
A saddening music box solo for a loyal party member telling you the tragedies of her past.
Quirky Songs & Signature Tracks:
No game is complete without a few signature songs in the mix. Below are a few songs designed for very specific or odd situations, as well as a few favorites among previous and current employers:
A radical battle theme for a crime-loving mafia boss whale. Inspired by 80's American surf songs and the Paper Mario series.
A country-style boss theme for a shop keeper tired of getting robbed.
Credits music for the good ending of a game demo. Features two melodies heard throughout the main gameplay route.
A retro battle theme for a powerful bird mini-boss, inspired by the Kirby series.
An orchestral battle theme for a stage performer entertaining his audience with a good fight.
A jazz fusion battle theme designed to sync with a cutscene.
A battle theme for a crazy clown free from his shackles.
Music for a secret level in a racing game, later repurposed as boss music for another game. Inspired by Toby Fox's "The World Revolving". Made with the Mario Party 2, Super Mario 64, and Kirby Superstar SoundFonts.
